4 Gowns That Gorgeously Flatter Apple-Shaped Figures

Inspiration, planning, style

by Danielle Bouchat-Friedman

APPLE-SHAPED FIGURES

Typified by: A large bust and tummy but thin legs.
Think: Oprah Winfrey and Drew Barrymore.
Try on: V-necks and sweetheart necklines are figure-flattering. Choose a gown with an empire waist or a gown with straps to support a large bust.
Tricky: The strapless ball gown or one-shoulder styles.

1. This fairytale wedding gown features a deep V-neck, a tulle skirt and whispers of platinum and champagne.

Allure Bridals, style 9425, $1,685 at Claire’s Fashions, Wilmington, Del.

2. With a V-neck, empire waist accent and modified cap sleeve, this classic lace gown is a home run.

3. Alençon lace appliqués and delicate beading cascade down the halter neckline and bodice of this tulle gown. The waist is encrusted with elegant jewels.

Mori Lee, style Maryann, $1,250 at The Dress Matters, Media, Pa.

4. This slim, romantic A-line dress features a delicate, sweetheart neckline and gorgeous beaded lace motifs dancing across tulle. It is finished with a corset-back or zipper-back closure.

EXPERT TIP: Keep an open mind. Don’t be afraid to move away from your original vision. A lot of brides end up changing some aspect of what they want based on how they look and feel after their first appointment. —Lauren Stamegna, sales and marketing manager, Claire’s Fashions, Wilmington, Del.
