Simplicity takes center stage in centerpieces at weddings across Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Picture a single potted chrysanthemum tied up with a big bow. Perhaps a grouping of framed pictures of the bride and groom. Or such seasonal reminders as pumpkins, gourds and ornamental kale.

“I am seeing a lot of keeping it simple lately, brides who are going with no floral centerpieces and more candles and greenery,” says Samantha Diedrick of Secretariat in Greenville.

The event planner says many couples are choosing unfussy displays that convey a relaxed vibe. Centerpieces that maintain a low profile allow guests to converse across the table without having to navigate tall, billowing sprays of blossoms. Candlelight adds a romantic touch.

Celebrating the big day at a venue that doesn’t allow open flames? Imagine a lantern with an LED light surrounded by seashells and starfish. Or create a tower of lemons or oranges on a pretty plate. Accent with magnolia leaves. Celebrate winter with arrangements of evergreen boughs and pine cones.
