Beth and Aaron Shields

How they met: “We met on OkCupid in 2013. I was 23 and he was 26,” says Beth.

She says Aaron had just gotten out of a long-term relationship, so his friends had encouraged him to try it. “I was getting my masters in education for school counseling and a lot of my peers were getting married,” says Beth.

She says her second day on the dating site, she received a message from Aaron. Her screen name was BestOfBethWorlds, a play on her name and her ethnicity. His pick up line was simple, but it stuck: “I hope your name is Beth.” She says they played 20 questions and decided to meet a week later for sushi. By their second date, they were official.

How he proposed: Aaron proposed on June 3, 2014, just 10 months after the couple’s first date. “I am a big scrap-booker, so he made a scrapbook with lots of our pictures in it. The last page was a selfie of him holding up a piece of paper that said, “Will you marry me?”’

The big day: The couple married on Sept. 26, 2015. The first words that came to Beth’s mind to describe her wedding day were “very windy.”

The couple chose to wed in Lewes because it’s a place Beth’s family has been going for years. “My uncle has a beach house, my grandfather passed away there—my family always goes to Lewes to reconnect.”

The couple made a grand entrance during their reception with their rendition of the ‘Carlton Dance’ from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” They actually submitted the video of their moves to “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and sure enough, the host, Alfonso Ribeiro (the original Carlton Banks) played their video.
