7 Nontraditional Engagement Announcements

Inspiration, tips and how-tos

1. Embrace your pet. Furry friends add a cute element and often symbolize an important moment for couples, especially if they picked a pet together. 2. Share a hobby. Get inspired with props. If your future hubby is into hunting, take a shot and proclaim his hunt over. Fishers? Make a heart out of fishhooks. 3. Get nostalgic. Did you first spot your spouse at a game or concert? Try going back and incorporating the venue. 4. Swap the sign for a mug. Point out your rock while holding a cute cup. 5. Make it work. Do you or your future spouse have a really neat job? Try taking your photographer to your workplace or make it a prop in your shot. 6. Make it seasonal. Different seasons provide different opportunities, so think about the greenness of summer or the lighting in winter and try to make the most of them. 7. A ring with a view. Be it barn or beach or mountain top meadow, an amazing background can take away the cliché. A stunning view lets you play with some more traditional poses without getting boring. 8. Spell it out. Pick a word that means something to both of you and add the ring for a very personal touch. 9. Let the ring speak for itself. Whether you’re a little camera shy or just want to eschew traditional engagement photos altogether, let the ring and a beautiful backdrop do the talking.

Give the big reveal the same treatment used to pop the question.

Engagement announcements with a nice picture of a couple in a cute, ring-flashing embrace might be cute—and get lots of likes—but it’s also a little cliché. Instead of sticking with the traditional, get a little creative when revealing the great news to family and friends, whether in the mail or on social media. These nontraditional engagement announcement ideas are sure to make an impact.
