Is a Small Bouquet Right for Your Wedding Look?

Sometimes less is more, as in a compact bouquet that celebrates both the wedding and beautiful blooms.

“Going petite allows marriers to focus on the quality of the blooms,” says Rebecca DePasquale, owner of RAM Floral of Norristown, Pennsylvania. “Petite doesn’t have to be underwhelming.”

She suggests using seasonal blooms to ensure the highest level of freshness. “And don’t forget orchids,” she says.

Even in a small bouquet, there’s always room for romance. DePasquale once designed a compact arrangement of blooms mounted on an open vintage book that was cherished by the couple.

“We’ve seen clients incorporate sentimental touches like embroidered ribbons, pieces of heirloom garments, pins and religious souvenirs,” she says.

Compact bouquets are a good choice for petite brides who don’t want to appear overwhelmed by voluminous sprays of flowers, says Anna Reddick of Valley Forge Flowers in Wayne, Pennsylvania. She likes blooms that make an impact when they are tightly bundled.

“Roses are your best friend in a compact bouquet,” Reddick suggests. “Calla lilies, tulips and peonies also work well.”
