Taking a Break From Tradition Can Add Magic to Your Big Day

When it comes to weddings, couples are increasingly becoming more focused on creating a unique experience for their guests rather than sticking with tradition. Things like custom social media hashtags and filters, non-religious ceremonies and more are creating nonconventional celebrations that not only create a unique environment for guests, but also showcase the personalities of the guests of honor!

Terrain Events venues allow couples the opportunity to buck the trends and create their own twists on their special day. Our unique offerings, vendor relationships and customizable menus provide the flexibility for our clients to get creative as they envision their big day.

If you’re not sure where to begin, our knowledgeable team has put together the top five tips to remember when you’re creating your non-traditional wedding celebration.

Set the stage with your venue

Finding the right venue is likely the first stop on your planning journey. Create a unique atmosphere by thinking outside of the traditional ballroom or hotel-style venues. Our spaces, The Garden Shed at Terrain in Glen Mills and Terrain Gardens at Devon Yard, are enchanting, rustic locations to consider spending your big day.

Trim your guest list for a more intimate affair

Micro-weddings are a perfect way to create a more intimate celebration of close family and friends. Stress less about your guestlist and invite your nearest and dearest to commemorate your nuptials in a smaller venue, like our Hot House or Mushroom House spaces in Glen Mills.

Add layers to your look with different textures and florals

Fresh flowers will always be a beautiful accent to any event but remember they’re not the only option! One of the favorite trends of our in-house floral team Design by Terrain is the layering both fresh and dried florals with textured linens to create a unique design aesthetic. They love to take bunches of beautiful seasonal blooms and pair them with hardgoods, like curated votives, candles and hand-dyed fabrics, to create a cohesive look individual to each event they style.

Family-style food

Gone are the days of choosing beef, chicken or fish. At terrain our couples can select a family-style dining option that creates a feeling of sharing and togetherness for your guests. Our in-house culinary team works with each of our couples to create a bespoke seasonal menu to be served fresh from our kitchens on the night of their event.

Let them eat cake – or don’t!

Cap off your night with an unconventional cake moment. Fondant is fun but try working with a bakery to capture the spirit of your wedding, like using a more imperfect icing technique on your typical tiers or forgo cake altogether and offer guests desserts like customized ice cream sandwiches or our signature s’mores.
